Acting President attends National Humanitarian Month launching ceremony

Hanoi (VNA) – Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan attended a ceremony inthe northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on April 22 to launch theNational Humanitarian Month 2024.
The National Humanitarian Month, jointlyorganised by the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC) Central Committee and theprovincial People’s Committee, will run from May 1-31, to celebrate the 70thanniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024), and the 70thanniversary of the liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - 2024).
At the ceremony, Xuan affirmedthat over the past six years, the VRC has been the core organizer of theHumanitarian Month across the country, contributing to raising publicawareness, and promoting and spreading the spirit of "mutual love"among people from all walks of life. As a result, more than 3.4 trillion VND (133.5million USD) has been mobilised, and used to help over 5.5 million poor anddisadvantaged people throughout the country.
She expressed her hope that agencies,organisations and donors inside and outside the country will continue supporting andaccompanying the VRC to provide assistance for more people in need.
VRC Chairwoman Bui Thi Hoa said that inthis year’s National Humanitarian Month, the VRC aims to support 100,000individuals and collectives in difficult circumstances.

At the event, the Acting Presidentpresented 300 scholarships to ethnic minority students with good academicperformance in Dien Bien province. The VRC at all levels also received donationsand donation pledges worth 485 billion VND.
On this occasion, vouchers worth 500,000VND each were granted to 500 policy beneficiaries and poor people in theprovince.
The highlight of the National HumanitarianMonth 2024 was the “Trieu Buoc Chan Nhan Ai” (Millions of Steps of Kindness) campaign,which took place from February 25 to April 21 with the participation of nearly100,000 people through the V-Race application. The campaign collected 14.1billion VND which will be used to aid the poor in Thai Nguyen, Son Laand Dien Bien provinces./.
Close to 836 billion VND (35.53 million USD) were donated and more than 1.16 million needy people were aided in May – the National Humanitarian Month this year.
Vietnam recognises the importance of humanitarian assistance and supports the role by relevant United Nations agencies and regional agencies in mobilising and delivering humanitarian assistance in conflicts, disasters, other emergency situations, for saving lives, effective response to food insecurity, emergencies, said a Vietnamese representative at the meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on Humanitarian Affairs Segment 2023.

In recent decades, Vietnam’s mainstream media has become a reliable and persuasive channel for showcasing the nation’s development policies and achievements, especially in economic matters, according to a senior assistant editor at the Times of India.
A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.
