APEC 2017: Da Nang in place for APEC Economic Leaders’ Week
With more than a week to the start of the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, the central coastal city of Da Nang has made meticulous and thorough preparations for the country’s significant event in 2017.

Da Nang (VNA) – With more than a week to the start of the 2017 APECEconomic Leaders’ Week, the central coastal city of Da Nang has made meticulousand thorough preparations for the country’s significant event in 2017.
The construction of a new international terminal at Da Nang InternationalAirport which includes an expanded apron was completed. Another key work, the APECInternational Press Centre, was fully equipped to serve some 3,000international and local reporters working and staying during the event.
Meeting venues and top-notch coastal residences for APEC leaders have beenprepared for the important event.
Roads and pavementswere upgraded while the city’s streets and beaches are kept tidy and cleaned up.Sanitation and urban order have been paid due attention.
APEC Park which lies in the downtown is an outstanding work to record the week-longevent. Local people and tourists to the park have chance to enjoy numerouskinds of statues that feature various characteristics of the APEC members’diverse cultures.
With hope that every citizen will become a cultural ambassador to popularise DaNang city as a livable destination, the city organised English training coursesfor over 300 local officials, security force and medical workers and reporters.In addition, professional training was held for hotel staff and restaurants aswell as taxi drivers.
Nearly 800 volunteers were chosen among local students, staff of sectors,departments and schools to serve the event.
Last month, the municipal Department of Tourism launched the Da Nang SmileCampaign as part of the efforts to turn Da Nang into a civilised, friendly,safe and attractive city to visitors. It is also among activities inpreparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.
Established in 1989, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) comprises 21economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong(China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, NewZealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, ChineseTaipei, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.-VNA
The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, which will take place in the central Da Nang city on November 6-11, will offers opportunities to promote the beauty of Vietnam’s landscapes and people, especially destinations in the central region, to international friends.
Trucks, tipper lorries and lorries with trailers will not be allowed on certain roads in the central city of Da Nang during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in November.

The Ministry of Health and the Health Department of the central city of Da Nang on October 25 held a drill on responses to emergency cases during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week that is slated for Da Nang in November.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed enhancing economic and trade cooperation, including the development of railway connectivity between Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan, which will also strengthen links with Central Asian nations.

The newly adopted law stipulates that the people’s procuracy system comprises the Supreme People’s Procuracy; people’s procuracies at the provincial and municipal level; regional people’s procuracies; and military procuracies at all levels.
For 2025 and beyond, Vietnam and Mozambique have identified key cooperation priorities, including the continued implementation of existing frameworks and the expansion of ties into new areas such as renewable energy, construction, IT and digital transformation.
Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu stressed the need to enhance the performance of institutions established under the Convention, thereby reinforcing the role and vitality of UNCLOS, referred to as the “Constitution for the Oceans,” in maintaining maritime order, conserving and sustainably utilising marine resources, and contributing to global peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Regarding PM Chinh’s attendance at the WEF’s meeting in China for the third year in a row and Vietnam’s contributions to the forum, Ma said the Vietnamese leader has shared practical experiences and proposals on green economy aimed at facilitating trade and attracting foreign investment within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP); and offering fresh ideas for shaping strategies in economics, trade, and sustainable development.
In 2019, the Vietnamese association in PEI was established as a non-governmental organisation to support integration and development within the community. It has since organised a range of activities to maintain cultural identity, foster community cohesion, and strengthen ties with the homeland, while also contributing to the development of the host society.
Vietnam’s participation at the meeting underscores the country’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and proactive international integration in a broad, deep, and effective manner. It also conveys Vietnam’s ambition and determination to enter a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.
The amended law will take effect on July 1, 2025, except for provisions on civil servant evaluation in Section 3, Chapter IV, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026.
