Sydney (VNA) – Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc’s official visit to Australia and the signing of a joint statement toestablish the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership were given wide coverageon the local press on March 15 and 16.
The Herald weekly carried on the front page anarticle titled “Vietnam and Australia deepen ties”, along with a photo of theVietnamese PM and his spouse at the plane’s door after landing at Canberra.
The SBS devotedfour minutes on its radio channel to the visit and published a story on itswebsite to highlight the signing of the bilateral strategic partnership. The ABC groupand the The Courier weekly also ran similar stories and photos on the welcomeceremony, talks and signing of documents of the two Prime Ministers.
The articlesnoted that Vietnam and Australia have officially ramped up diplomatic tiesahead of a special summit of South East Asian leaders, with the two PMs signinga bilateral strategic partnership aimed at deepening defence, security, trade,investment, development and tourism links on March 15.

The local press also reported on the signing of separatedeals on education and research. They stressedthat Vietnam and Australia last week signed up on to the Trans-PacificPartnership free trade pact, adding that Vietnam is the fastest-growing economyin ASEAN.
