Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian competent forces cracked down on 5,182 dr🌳ug cases, detained over 13,000 people and confiscated nearly 1.9 tonnes of drugs and more than 19 tonnes of chemical precursors in the first half of 2025.
These numbers were released at the 10th meeting of the steering committee for the anti-drug campaign, chaired by Neth Savoeun, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD).
Among the cases, 3,086 were related to drug trafficking, transport and storage, resulting in the detention of 6,079 people, and eight cases involved drug processing and production, with 31 people detained.
Seven cases were related to cannabis cultivation, leading to the detention of eight people. Nine cases involved facilitating drug use, with 32 people detained.
There were also 16 cases of driving under the influence of drugs, resulting in 26 detentions.
In the first half of this year, Cambodian authorities also discovered 2,056 cases relating to drug use, with 7,276 people arrested. Of these, 601 were sent to court, 6,084 were sent to treatment and rehabilitation centers, and 591 were released to guardians for community-based detoxification.
Most of the drugs were seized in 74 major cases involving organised criminal networks, with 11 masterminds and 219 network members detained./.
