Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodia shipped 118,401 tonnesof rice to China in the first half of 2019, an annual increase of 66 percent.
According to a report from Cambodia’s Secretariat of OneWindow Service for Rice Export, China remained the top buyer of its rice duringthe period, with the amount shipped to China accounting for 42 percent of thecountry's total rice export.
Meanwhile, Cambodia exported 93,503 tonnes of rice to theEuropean market, down 32 percent against last year. The reduction resulted fromthe European Union imposing duties on rice importing from Cambodia for threeyears beginning this year in a bid to curb a surge in rice imports from thecountry and to protect European producers.
The report said the Southeast Asian country’s rice exportsto 50 countries and regions worldwide during the January – June period amountedto 281,538 tonnes, up 3.7 percent year-on-year.-VNA
Cambodia exported 342,136 tonnes of rice in the first eight months of 2015 and the country finds it hard to reach its goal of exporting one million tonnes of rice.
Cambodia has exported 540,000 tonnes of rice in 2016, up 0.7 percent from the previous year, but far below the target of one million tonnes set by the Government.
