The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and Japan’s Nagasakiprefecture have expressed an interest in expanding their cooperation onaquaculture techniques, agriculture and waste water treatment.
During a working session with Can Tho leaders in the city on November6, Kurosaki Isamu, Director of the Green New Deal Office underNagasaki’s Industry and Labour Department, said his prefecture and CanTho shared similarities in their industry-based economies.
During the industrialisation process in its agricultural sector,Nagasaki handled great pressure on its water resources. The prefecturehopes to share its effective technological solutions with Can Tho tominimise water pollution in the city, he said.
Nagasaki will also support Can Tho in increasing agricultural outputand the quality of farm produce through the application of modernfarming technology, he pledged.
Some of thetechnologies introduced to Can Tho by the Japanese team include waterfilters at aquaculture farms and using rice husks to improve soil.
According to Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of Can Tho’sPeople’s Committee, despite its strengths in agriculture andaquaculture, the city faces limitations in the application of advancedtechnology in these areas, especially in treating waste water andreducing water pollution.
Can Tho hopes Japanwill support the city and transfer the latest technology on improvingwater quality and increasing agricultural output, he said.
The city will keep its door open to Japanese firms keen to invest in these areas, he avowed.-VNA
