Pawnshop chain Cebuana Lhuillier of the Philippines announced on January 19 that personal information of around 900,000 clients were affected in a data breach involving their email server used for marketing purposes.

Hanoi (VNA) – Pawnshop chain Cebuana Lhuillier of the Philippinesannounced on January 19 that personal information of around 900,000 clientswere affected in a data breach involving their email server used for marketingpurposes.
In its official statement, the parent company said that some of these leakedinformation included birthdays, addresses, and sources of income, while transactiondetails or information were not compromised.
The company's main servers remain safe and protected, it affirmed.
Cebuana Lhuillier said that it had immediately coordinated with theNational Privacy Commission (NPC) to investigate the incident, and alreadyimplemented safety measures to protect the personal data of its clients.
It also notified all affected clients and provided them guidance on howto further protect their personal information.
Cebuana Lhuillier is one of the leading and largest non-bank financialservices providers in the Philippines with close to 2,500 branches nationwide.The company offers domestic and international remittance, pawning, micro-insurance,and micro-loaning services.-VNA
