French newspaper Le Monde has run a story highlighting Vietnam’s northern province of Son La as a model for ecological agricultural development.

In the context of the increasing impacts of climate change, green growth is described as a way to both pursue economic growth goals and prevent environmental degradation and biodiversity loss towards sustainable use of natural resources and increase of adaptability to climate change, Hoang Hong Hiep, acting director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the Central Region (ISSCR), has said.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN, called for the compliance with international humanitarian law, including duties related to environmental protection, at the UN Security Council (UNSC)’s open debate held on September 17.

Vietnam is willing to accompany with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in boosting sustainable development for the current and future generations, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Vietnam and FAO agreed a country programme framework for cooperation between 2017 and 2021 during a ceremony to mark the 37th World Food Day held in northern Bac Kan province on October 14.

Many localities nationwide experienced environmental degradation during the 2011-2015 period.
