The first Interpol World, an international event on security initiativesand technology, was launched in Singapore on April 14 by Interpol incoordination of the Singaporean Ministry of Home Affairs.

The event saw the presence of senior officials of Interpol, theworld’s largest international police organisation alongside chiefs ofpolice from its 190 member countries and 258 exhibiting companies from34 countries and territories worldwide.

The InterpolWorld 2015 is expected to serve as a catalyst for expanding cooperationbetween police forces and bring the private and public sectors togetherin security technology research and development.

The Interpol estimated that police forces across the globe spentthousands of millions USD to develop, purchase and apply technology forcrime prevention and combat. However, in many cases, police technologieswere outdated in comparison with the technologies used by criminals.

Solutions, thus, are required to address the risingdemand for advanced technologies and capacity building to meet realglobal security challenges.

The event comprisesconferences and private dialogues between government policy makers,influencers and security professionals in line with an exhibition,focusing on cyber security, safe cities, border management, and supplychain security.

Participants to conferences anddialogues discussed the threats and challenges in dealing withtechnology crimes as well as applying technology in crime combat.Several practical initiatives to the issues were also presented.

During the event, police organisations exchanged experience in theirworks and signed cooperation agreements on technology support andtransfer.

Several big names, such as Microsoft, RSA,Symantec, ST Engineering and Motorola, showcased their latesttechnologies at the Interpol World exhibition, which expects to greet8,000 visitors during the 3-day event.

Interpol officially opened the 27,000 sq. m Interpol Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) the previous day.-VNA
