Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association (VIFA) incollaboration with the Hanoi University organised an exchange on May 30 to markthe 72nd anniversary of the National Day of Italy and the 45th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties.
At the event, VIFA President Nguyen Van Nam expressed his delight at the stronggrowth and robust achievements of Italy in the past over seven decades tobecome an important member of the European Union (EU) and a proactive member ofthe UN and many other organisations.
The country has made significant contributions to the regional and globalpeace, development, and win-win cooperation, he highlighted.
He noted that the Vietnam-Italy cultural exchange centre (or Dante Alighiericentre), since it was established in Vietnam in 2006, has become an incubatorfor the Italian culture in Vietnam, hoping that training centres like this willpromote their roles in enhancing cultural exchange and mutual understandingbetween the two peoples in the coming time.
For her part, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Cecilia Peccioni affirmed thatVietnam has become one of the leading partners of Italy in the Southeast Asianregion, across the fields of politics, economy, culture, education andtraining, and scientific research. Two-way trade hit nearly 5 billion USD peryear.
The two nations have enjoyed close cooperation in the framework of themultilateral forums, particularly collaboration between the EU and ASEAN, sheunderlined.
Regarding education and training, the signing of 100 agreements betweenuniversities and training centres of both sides is vivid illustration for the hugecooperation prospects in the sector, she said, adding that students will helpconnect the two peoples and two economies in the future.
Later, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Bui KhacSon presented the medal “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” to the Italiandiplomat. Cecilia Peccioni also received a certificate of merit from the HanoiUniversity for her contributions to the bilateral education and trainingcooperation.

The 45th founding anniversary of the Vietnam-Italy diplomatic ties (March 23, 1973) was marked with a ceremony held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy on March 30.

While praising the efforts of ministries, sectors, and localities in tackling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeiting, and intellectual property violations, PM Chinh acknowledged that in some places and at certain times, there has been lax enforcement and unclear jurisdiction, leading to increasingly complex developments in these issues.
At the working session, General Secretary Lam presented the Party Committee of the VFF and central mass organisations with the Politburo’s Decision No. 304-QD/TW, which outlines the new structure, functions and tasks of the VFF Central Committee, marking a significant step in improving its organisational effectiveness.
Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.
Cheng stressed that this is third time PM Chinh has attended the meeting and he is among the few senior government officials participating in this year's event, which is considered as a rare and commendable gesture.
The fact that the Vietnamese PM has been invited to attend and speak at this important event for three consecutive years reflects the WEF as well as the international business community's recognition and high regard for Vietnam's position, role, and contributions to global and regional economic growth.
This new era marks a crucial phase in which the country must strive with determination to fulfil its strategic objectives, achieving breakthrough development at new levels of sophistication, quality, and global standing, laying the foundation for further growth. Era after era forms a continuous history of development, ascending steadily from one level to the next.
The resolution on such mechanisms aims to serve as a legal basis for opportunely dealing with difficulties and hindrances caused by legal regulations in important, priority, and urgent areas that require immediate settlement so as to unlock resources, facilitate economic development, and turn legislation into a competitive edge.
PM Pham Minh Chinh instructed chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow the Ministry of Finance's guidelines on handling public finances and budgets, with a focus on preventing wastefulness, misconduct, or corruption.
Knapper reaffirmed the US's commitment to supporting a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam, while respecting each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and political systems.
Vietnam is deeply concerned about the escalating and complex conflict in the Middle East, which poses a serious threat to the lives and safety of civilians, as well as to regional and global peace and stability.
