Hanoi (VNA) – The JapaneseGovernment’s emergency relief aid for Vietnamese flood-hit areas landed at theNoi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on October 20.
The aid consists of 40 sets of canvases, 47water purifiers, and more than 5,000 blankets.
The National Steering Committee forDisaster Prevention and Control has been working to ensure the donation will reachflood victims in Yen Bai and Hoa Binh provinces as soon as possible.
Nagai Katsuro, an official from the JapanEmbassy in Vietnam, expressed his empathy with losses the Vietnamese peoplehave suffered from the past historical downpours and floods. He hoped the aidwould help people in flood areas ease their difficulties.
The Japanese Government on October 19decided to provide emergency relief aid for Vietnam’s flood-hit areas.
The assistance is to respond to theVietnamese Government’s call and in line with the close relationship betweenthe two countries, according to a notice released by the Japanese Government.
Continuous downpours from October 10triggered floods and landslides in Vietnam’s northern and north centralregions, causing huge human and property losses.
Statistics released by the National SteeringCommittee for Disaster Prevention and Control show that as of October 16, floodskilled 75 people, injured 38 and left 28 others missing while forcing 2,604households to evacuate.-VNA
