Medal winners at Olympiads, int’l science competitions honoured

Hanoi (VNA) - A ceremony to honour students wining prizes in Olympiads and regional and international science and technology competitions was held by theMinistry of Education and Training in the Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted High School onOctober 19.
Addressing the event, Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and head of the Party CentralCommittee’s Commission on Mass Mobilisation, applauded the learningeffort of the students, stressing that Vietnamese students have consecutively wonmedals at international and regional Olympiads.
She appreciated the reform of the education sector in selecting and training studentsfor international competitions, which helped enhance the performance of Vietnamesestudents at Olympiads and international science and technology contests in 2018.
Onbehalf of Party and state leaders, Mai presented the third-class Labour Order ofthe President to Pham Duc Anh from the High School forGifted Students -the University of Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, whowon gold medals in chemistry in the two consecutive years of 2017 and 2018; andNguyen Phuong Thao from the same school who got the highest score in the InternationalBiology Olympiad in 2018.
Eightstudents won gold medals at international Olympiads in 2018 received the Prime Minister’s certificatesof merit, while those who won silver and bronze medals were awarded theMinister of Education and Training’s certificates of merit.
Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha also presented certificatesof merit to 15 teachers who have trained students for the international andregional competitions.
This year, all 38 Vietnamese studentswho took part in regional and international Olympiads won medals. They broughthome 13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.
This has been the best achievement of Vietnamesestudents at international competitions over the years.-VNA
As many as 117 students at high schools across the country joined a physics Olympiad held in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue to vie for chances to study in universities in Russia.
