Gia Lai (VNA) – Nearly 132,000 households inthe Central Highlands province of Gia Lai have escaped poverty thanks to Statepreferential loans over the past 15 years.
Specifically, 13 State preferential credit programmes insupport of housing, production and job creation reached over 140,000 peoplewith a total outstanding loan of 3.7 trillion VND (160.8 million USD). As aresult, jobs were offered to over 23,000 workers while more than 57,000students could access school education and more than 10,000 poor householdsreceived housing loans.
The rate of poor households in the locality is expected tofall from 24 percent in 2011 to below 17 percent during 2016-2020.
Le Van Chi, Director of the provincial Vietnam Bank forSocial Policies (VBSP) branch, said the lender will prioritise giving loans to ethnicminority groups in remote and mountainous areas and mobilise capital from theState and local budget for those living in makeshift or dilapidated houses.
The province also granted certificates of merit to 20units and 30 individuals of the VBSP branch in recognition of their efforts in povertyreduction.-VNA
Nearly 3,000 ethnic minority households have been resettled in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai thanks to the province’s efforts to complete more than 100 resettlement projects during 2013-2016.
Poverty rate in the Central Highlands dropped by 2.8 percent annually over the past 15 years, the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands said on June 30 .
