Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a meeting on June 3 in Lisbon withPresident of the Portuguese Parliament Maria da Assunsao who affirmedthat the Portugal’s legislative body supports Vietnam in fosteringties with the European Union.
She pledged that hercountry’s parliament will work for the European Parliament’s approval ofthe framework Partnership and Comprehensive Cooperation Agreementbetween Vietnam and the EU. Portugal also supports the earlyconclusion of negotiations for a free trade agreement between the twosides as well as the EU’s recognition of Vietnam ’s market economy atthe time of ending negotiations.
This will also createfavourable conditions for Vietnam and Portugal to strengtheneconomic, trade and investment ties, she said.
ThePortuguese top legislator also affirmed that the Portuguese Parliamentwill continue backing the expansion of partnership between Vietnam andPortugal in all fields, while standing ready to act as bridge forboth sides to boost economic, trade and investment collaboration as wellas cultural exchanges, people-to-people contacts and mutualunderstanding.
She also spoke highly of the success of the132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentarian Union hosted by Vietnamin March this year.
On his part, PM Nguyen Tan Dung briefed his host on the outcomes of his talks with his counterpart Pedro Passos Coelho.
He highly valued the Portuguese Parliament’s participation and activecontributions to the 132nd IPU Assembly. The Government leader thankedthe Portuguese Parliament’s strong support to the development ofrelations between the two countries as well as the growth ofcomprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the EU.
Both host and guest expressed hope that cooperation between the twoparliaments and two countries will be further bolstered in bothbilateral and multilateral frameworks.
They shared thesupport of the maintenance of peace, stability, security and safety ofmaritime and aviation in regions and all over the world, as well as thestrengthening of dialogues and creating favourable conditions forcooperation and common prosperity.-VNA
