Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc andhis entourage arrived in Phnom Penh on 8:30am on December 21 (local time),beginning his two-day State visit to Cambodia at the invitation of KingNorodom Sihamoni.
Upon his arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport,President Phuc was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the RoyalPalace Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol, Senior Minister in Charge of theGeneral Affairs to the Ministry of the Royal Palace Kuy Sophal, and Minister ofTourism Thong Khon, among others, from the Cambodian side. Vietnamese Ambassadorto Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang and embassy staff were also there to greet thepresident.
During the visit, Phuc is scheduled to meet King NorodomSihamoni, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and National Assembly leaders ofCambodia. He also plans to witness signing of cooperation agreements betweenthe two countries and attend the inauguration of Cambodia NA’s newadministrative building, a project funded by Vietnam.

It is Phuc’s first official visit to Cambodia as thePresident of Vietnam, which aims to mark the 55th anniversary of thetwo countries’ diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 – 2022). It is also the firstvisit of a foreign head of state to Cambodia since the beginning of this year.
The visit is expected to strengthen the political trust betweenthe two nations and deepen their multi-faceted partnership in a more practicaland effective manner. Additionally, it demonstrates Vietnam’s support for majorinternal and external events hosted by Cambodia in the coming time, notably theNA elections 2023 and Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022./.
The Commissions for Mass Mobilisation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and the Cambodian People’s Party Central Committee sought cooperation orientations during their online talks on November 29.
A good relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia will positively contribute to the development of each country as well as to ASEAN and the whole region where socio-economic recovery effort is underway, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang.
