A project promoting local engagement for sustainable development of Ha Long Bay has borne fruit after three years of implementation, heard a meeting in northern Quang Ninh province on May 30.

QuangNinh (VNA) – A project promoting local engagement for sustainabledevelopment of Ha Long Bay has borne fruit after three years of implementation,heard a meeting in northern Quang Ninh province on May 30.
The event reviewing the Ha Long – Cat BaAlliance: Local Engagement for Sustainable Development project was held by the QuangNinh provincial People’s Committee and the Centre for Marinelife Conservationand Community Development (MCD).
MCD Director Nguyen Thu Hue said Ha Long – CatBa Alliance is a public-private cooperation initiative funded by the US. Theproject aims to build a partnership between the Government, businesses andlocal authorities to promote the conservation and protection of Ha Long Bay andnearby Cat Ba archipelago of Hai Phong city, thus ensuring sustainabledevelopment.
Beginning in 2014, the project has supported theaquaculture association in Ha Long Bay with heritage preservation activitieswhile building sustainable aquaculture. It has also stepped up communicationsto encourage inter-sectoral cooperation and relevant parties’ participation,and enhanced their capacity in project implementation and supervision, sheadded.
Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincialPeople’s Committee Dang Huy Hau, head of the project coordinating board, saidthe conservation and sustainable development of Ha Long Bay is a continuous, long-termprocess that requires multilateral cooperation.
This type of cooperation will ensure betterdecision making since it gathers multiple viewpoints, builds trust throughrespecting each member’s contribution, ensures benefits for all sides and formspartnerships to create unanimity among them.
It will create a foundation for improvedmanagement of natural heritage sites like Ha Long Bay, he added.
Ha Long Bay was recognised as a world naturalheritage site by UNESCO in 1994 (for landscape values) and 2000 (for geologicaland geomorphological values). Quang Ninh is preparing to submit a dossier toUNESCO to seek a third recognition of Ha Long Bay, associated with Cat Ba, as aworld natural heritage site in terms of archeological values.-VNA
The third leadership committee meeting of the Ha Long-Cat Ba Alliance took place in Ha Long city on July 6 in an efforts to enhance environmental protection in Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba archipelago.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) held the fourth meeting in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 5 to update the progress of drafting dossiers re-applying for UNESCO’s recognition of Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh with an extended area to Cat Ba archipelago of Hai Phong as World Natural Heritage site.

A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.
