Bangkok(VNA) - Thailand's Supreme Court on August 31 dismissed a case against former PrimeMinister Abhisit Vejjajiva for ordering a crackdown on demonstrators protestingagainst his government in 2010.
More than 90 peoplewere killed in the unrest, one of the two-month protest of the red-shirtedforce to support former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Bangkok in 2010.
Abhisit and hisdeputy, Suthep Thaugsuban, were accused of murder and attempted murder inconnection with the crackdown on Thaksin's red-shirted supporters to end theirstreet protest.
The Supreme Courtupheld rulings by lower courts that the police's Department of SpecialInvestigation had no jurisdiction to bring the case.
It was brought in2014, before the government of Thaksin's sister, then Prime Minister YingluckShinawatra, was ousted after weeks of violent anti-government protests byyellow-shirted supporters of the establishment.
Statistics showedthat 99 people were killed during the protest, along with about 2,000 injuredpeople.
Thanawut Wichaidit,spokesman for the pro-Shinawatra United Front for Democracy AgainstDictatorship, said the group had already petitioned the Anti-CorruptionCommission to take the case against Abhisit and Suthep back to court.-VNA
