Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 214th session

Paris (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieuattended the plenary meeting of the UNESCO Executive Board's 214th session onApril 4-5 in Paris, France.
Speaking at the event, Hieu stressed that Vietnam alwaysattaches great importance to multilateral cooperation in general and the roleof UNESCO in particular, and commits to contribute more actively to theorganisation's activities as a member of its Executive Board for the 2021-2025term.
He suggested that UNESCO, during this session, take specificsteps in the fields of education, culture, science, and information andcommunication to implement the medium-term Vision and Strategy for the 2022-2029period and the programme and budget for 2022-2025; promote several new issuessuch as open science, ethics in artificial intelligence, and the future ofeducation; and contribute to the organisation of the United NationsTransforming Education Summit in September 2022 in New York and the upcomingpreparatory meeting in Paris.
The UNESCO Executive Board’s session will last until April 13, discussing morethan 50 topics on the organisation's activities.
It is expected to approve a list of new and expanded globalgeoparks, including Vietnam’s Non Nuoc Cao Bang.
On this occasion, the head of the Vietnamese delegation hada meeting with the President of the UNESCO General Conference and the heads ofother countries’ delegations to promote multilateral cooperation and campaignfor Vietnam's candidacy as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Convention2003) for the 2022-2026 term.

Deputy FM Hieu also met UNESCO Director-General AudreyAzoulay, its Deputy Director-General and the President of the IntergovernmentalCommittee to discuss how to intensify the two sides’ cooperation in the time tocome to realise the memorandum of understanding on bilateral collaboration inthe 2021-2025 period signed last year within the visit to UNESCO headquartersby Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh./.
The central province of Ha Tinh is striving to popularise its two Documentary Heritage in Asia and the Pacific under UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme – ‘Hoang Hoa su trinh do’ (The Envoy’s Journey to China) and Phuc Giang School woodblocks.
Hanoi plans to take various actions from now until 2025 to implement the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) initiatives to raise public awareness of the capital’s commitments to the network.

The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on June 24 afternoon approved in principle an ordinance amending and supplementing several provisions of six ordinances relating to the jurisdiction of the People’s Courts and relevant agencies.

The newly adopted law stipulates that the people’s procuracy system comprises the Supreme People’s Procuracy; people’s procuracies at the provincial and municipal level; regional people’s procuracies; and military procuracies at all levels.
For 2025 and beyond, Vietnam and Mozambique have identified key cooperation priorities, including the continued implementation of existing frameworks and the expansion of ties into new areas such as renewable energy, construction, IT and digital transformation.
Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu stressed the need to enhance the performance of institutions established under the Convention, thereby reinforcing the role and vitality of UNCLOS, referred to as the “Constitution for the Oceans,” in maintaining maritime order, conserving and sustainably utilising marine resources, and contributing to global peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Regarding PM Chinh’s attendance at the WEF’s meeting in China for the third year in a row and Vietnam’s contributions to the forum, Ma said the Vietnamese leader has shared practical experiences and proposals on green economy aimed at facilitating trade and attracting foreign investment within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP); and offering fresh ideas for shaping strategies in economics, trade, and sustainable development.
In 2019, the Vietnamese association in PEI was established as a non-governmental organisation to support integration and development within the community. It has since organised a range of activities to maintain cultural identity, foster community cohesion, and strengthen ties with the homeland, while also contributing to the development of the host society.
Vietnam’s participation at the meeting underscores the country’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and proactive international integration in a broad, deep, and effective manner. It also conveys Vietnam’s ambition and determination to enter a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.
The amended law will take effect on July 1, 2025, except for provisions on civil servant evaluation in Section 3, Chapter IV, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026.
