The Vietnam Development Partnership Forum (VDPF) 2014, which isscheduled to open in December, will focus on institutional reformswithin the Vietnamese economy, strengthening self-reliance andcompetitiveness of the Vietnamese economy, the Government news portalreported.
Delegates to the forum will discuss aboutsocio-economic performance in 2014 and plans for 2015 as well aseconomic development orientations for the coming years. There will betwo separate sessions on the institutional reforms and on thedevelopment of private economic sector in order to build a sustainableand independent economy.
VDPF 2014 will offer a good opportunityfor Government agencies and their foreign development partners toexchange views, experiences, and mobilise foreign partners’ support inpolicy making and solutions to carry out institutional reforms ineconomic performance in the coming time.
“This isthe important moment for Vietnam to implement institutional reformsto be able to achieve robust and sustainable economic growth,” Ministerof Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh was quoted as saying.
Relatingto private sector issue, VDPF 2014 will discuss measures to developdomestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); enhance theircompetitiveness and participation into global value chains, boostsupporting industries so as to reduce heavy reliance on foreign rawmaterial suppliers and increase domestic producers’ independence.
Accordingto the Minister Vinh, private sector is a major driving force in everyeconomy. In Vietnam , the sector accounts for a majority of numberbut fails to play a significant role in the economy. “It is necessary totake measures to develop the private sector especially SMEs,” saidMinister Vinh.
The VDPF was held for the first time in 2013,replacing the Consultative Group Meeting of Donors. VDPF has reflectedthe new position of Vietnam, from being a recipient of officialdevelopment assistance (ODA) to become a development partner of othercountries and international organisations.
At VDPF 2013, theGovernment and foreign partners approved four groups of actions namelypoverty reduction and ethnic minority poverty reduction; strengtheningprivate sector’s access to services and participation in supplyingpublic services; environmental protection; and enhancing competitivenessof labour force through vocational training and skill development.
Asscheduled, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will announce areport on the implementation of the groups of actions at VDPF 2014.-VNA
