Vietnam-Laos solidarity honoured with monument handover
The project to renovate, upgrade, and expand the monument site was a gift from the Vietnamese task force to its Lao counterpart, with a total value of 54 billion VND (2.06 million USD). Vientiane (VNA) – The special task forces of the Vietnamese and Lao governments held a ceremony to inaugurate and officially hand over the Vietnam-Laos combat alliance monument in the southern Lao province of Champasak on July 1.
The project to renovate, upgrade, and expand the monument site was a gift from the Vietnamese task force to its Lao counterpart, with a total value of 54 billion VND (2.06 million USD). The Lao side served as project investor, while the construction was undertaken by Company 206 of Military Zone 5 under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence and head of the Vietnamese task force, underscored the monument’s profound significance. He described it as a powerful symbol of the enduring, faithful bond between Vietnam and Laos.
He noted that the site serves not only as a historical and cultural landmark but also as a vital educational resource for present and future generations, deepening their understanding of the historic alliance between the armies and peoples of the two nations as well as of the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation shared between the two Parties, States, and peoples.
Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong, Lao Deputy Minister of National Defence and head of the Lao task force, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, Staꦜte, military, and people for their significant, timely, and invaluable support to Laos across all levels./.

The visits underscored the embassy's deep care for the Vietnamese community in Laos and served as a meaningful gesture highlighting the enduring solidarity and special friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Laos.
The discussions underscored the deepening partnership between the two nations as they approach the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025 and 14 years of bilateral strategic partnership, a milestone to review achievements and chart a path for a more robust phase of cooperation.
During its six-month term, Vietnam chaired and actively participated in a number of prominent activities, reaffirming the APG’s proactive and constructive engagement in multilateral mechanisms and the United Nations.
This includes agreements signed before July 1, 2025, on behalf of district-level People’s Committees; ministerial departments or directorate-level agencies; provincial-level government bodies; departments under provincial authorities; border commune-level People’s Committees; multiple agencies or organisations acting jointly.
The two leaders welcomed the two negotiating delegations reaching consensus on a Vietnam - US joint statement concerning a fair, reciprocal, and balanced trade agreement framework.

Xuan suggested Lombardy establish partnerships with several Vietnamese localities and economic centres, and expressed her confidence that the new direct flight between Hanoi and Milan - the capital of Lombardy - will help strengthen cooperation between the two regions, cultures, and peoples.
