Vietnam readies security for APEC 2017 leaders’ week

DaNang (VNA) – A send-off ceremony for security forces and acounter-terrorism exercise to protect security at the coming APEC EconomicLeaders’ Week in Da Nang city were held on October 24.
The activities involved thousands of policeofficers from the Ministry of Public Security along with many local residents.
Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Namsaid since 2016, the sub-committee for security and health care has worked withfour other sub-committees and the APEC 2017 National Secretariat to ensuresecurity and order for APEC events this year.
The ministry has finished the APEC Weekprotection plan and forces are ready to perform their duties, he added.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc lauded the efforts of police and military forces and localadministrations to successfully organise APEC meetings.
He asked authorities and sectors to be fullyaware of the importance of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang fromNovember 6-11. They must ensure absolute safety for this event.
The week is expected to bring together heads ofstate and some 10,000 delegates from 21 APEC member economies.
Established in 1989, APEC comprises Australia,Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republicof Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, thePhilippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.
Vietnam joined APEC in 1998 and is hosting APECevents in 2017 under the theme “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a SharedFuture”.-VNA
