Vietnam’s civil registration system sees great improvements: official
The civil registration system in Vietnam has been improved considerably after five years of implementing the national action plan on civil registration and vital statistics.

Hanoi (VNA) –The civil registration system in Vietnam has been improved considerably afterfive years of implementing the national action plan on civil registration andvital statistics.
So said Deputy Minister ofJustice Nguyen Khanh Ngoc at a meeting held both in person and viavideoconference on November 23 to review the five-year implementation of thenational action plan for 2017-2024.
He said Vietnam’s civilregistration system has recorded great strides in terms of legal regulationsand apparatus. Since 2016, millions of children have had their birth registeredand personal identification numbers granted each year. The birth registrationrate has always been higher than 98 percent.
The national action plan has ensuredthe right to civil registration for not only domestic citizens but alsooverseas Vietnamese and foreigners living in the country, with all necessary informationincluded as in line with international practices, according to Ngoc.
Naomi Kitahara, Representativeof the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam, said an effective civilregistration and vital statistics system will ensure that all people benefitfrom social welfare, including health care and education. Besides, a leanregistration mechanism across the life course holds special importance to womenand creates a framework for resolving gender inequality.
She recommended the countryconsolidate the role and responsibility of the national steering committee forthe national action plan while further applying digital technology to helpministries and sectors share information more effectively and facilitate theimprovement of the entire civil registration and vital statistics system.
The UNFPA will assist theVietnamese Government in speeding up changes towards a modern and progressivecivil registration and vital statistics system in which data will be shared andused for making and implementing evidence-based policies and decisions, sheadded.
The meeting, funded by UNFPAVietnam and Vital Strategies, took place within the framework of the Data forHealth Initiative that aims to help the country improve civil registration andvital statistics./.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach. He noted that the early completion reflects the strong commitment of local authorities, the business community, philanthropists, and residents in improving housing conditions for disadvantaged groups.
